As a volunteer researcher I interviewed LGBT people in Latin American conflict states.
I use ‘peace-building’ and ‘gender minorities’ in quotes on purpose. Most policy/think-tanks might assign themselves as ‘peace-keeping‘, but International Alert prefer to build peace, which is why I signed on as a volunteer researcher in under Henri Myrttinen in the Gender Division.
I used my bilingual skills to make contact and build relationships with civil society groups and individuals in Latin America, to help the organisation’s efforts in the region.
My experience at International Alert culminated with a presentation I gave at Kent University on my research on challenges experienced by sexual minorities in conflict states.
