The Best U.S. Travel Destination Article award at IPW 2016 went to a press trip I organised.
Inspired by the classic travel story A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, Wanderlust magazine’s editor-in-chief Phoebe Smith wanted to hike the Appalachian Trailer her own “A Walk in the Woods” story.
I made all the arrangements for Phoebe to part-walk, part-drive the same seven-state trail from Georgia to Maine as Bill Bryson covered in his book.
Along the entire 2,180-mile length of the Appalachian Trail over a two-week period, I worked with Phoebe to cherry-pick the highlights to explore.
The resulting story, published in the October 2015 issue of Wanderlust, is chock-full of great information for would-be hikers, as well as engaging descriptions of the colorful personalities Smith met along the way.
In May 2016, Phoebe was awarded Best U.S. Travel Destination Article at national tourism conference IPW.
